BraveSoldier Venture Capital is under the leadership of Managing Partner, Derek Kwik. Derek has over 20 years of experience that combines venture capital investing with management consulting, strategic planning and operational experience in technology manufacturing.
Derek was the CEO of SiimTech Global Corporation, a leading developer of contactless mobile payment technology funded by SoftBank China Venture Capital. Under his direction, Derek managed the company’s operations in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Xiamen and Bangkok and established their relationship with Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) and its fleet of mobile operators. In Thailand, he led their commercial development with Bangkok Transit System (BTS), Advanced Info Service (AIS), Total Access Communication (DTAC) and True Move Corporation.
Derek was a Vice President of AsiaTech Ventures, a leading venture capital fund with LPs: the Hong Kong Government SAR, Government of Singapore Investment Corporation, Cable & Wireless Hong Kong Telecom, Fujitsu, Mitsui, NTT Docomo and Sun Microsystems. Derek assisted in managing the Hong Kong Applied Research Fund and the Cable & Wireless Hong Kong Telecom Venture Capital Fund. The funds focused on TMT investments in early stage and expansion situations across Greater China, South Korea and Hong Kong. He contributed to the firm’s success in achieving a gross IRR of 149% for all realized or publicly traded investments and 115% gross IRR for all investments.
In 1994, Derek was among the first group of Hong Kong returnees to work on projects in Greater China. Derek is an advisor, non-executive director and board member for several companies in the Asia-Pacific region. Derek is a board member of the Hong Kong International School Alumni Board and the Society of the Prevention of Cruelty To Animals. He is also a regular speaker at investment seminars and technology conferences. In his free time, he is a TEDx speaker, charity fundraiser, author of two books, ultra-marathon runner, PADI Dive Master and amateur chef. Derek was educated at the Hong Kong International School and the University of Southern California.
